The Beushop was speaking againstthe death penalty option by Minister for Justice and Attorney General Kerenga Kua, for murderers and rapists.
Archbishop Young saidthe government must instead strenthen police capacity to arrest and prosecute offenders.
They must concentrate on policies that will genuinely address violence in PNG and not enforce options that serve only to futher brutalizethe nation.
