MP expresses concern over maritime traffic

Transport Minister Ano Pala sain PNG is now covered by international conventions in terms of maritime traffic and damages.

Mr. Pala said cabinet has made several approvals and will present to parliament.

He made this known to parliament following questions raised by Milne Bey Governor Tit’s Philemon on MV Milne Bey ship wreck in December last year.

Mr. Tit’s saidthe ship wreck spilled oil and affected marine life in and around Kwaiwota Island.

He said his people depend on marine life astheir daily source of food and transport.

He raised concerns that traffic including damages by domestic and international vessels must be regulated.

Transport Minister Ano Pala saidthe reports he received fromthe investigation carrlied out atthe ship wreck site stated minimum damages.

However, he said this is notthe end of investigations. He assured Mr. Philemon that cabinet is critically looking intothe matter.
