Several churches in Lae Morobe province have supportedthe government’s proposed amendments to ban non-Christian fait’s.
The ministerial fraternal comprising mostly of Pentecostal churches says that Christianity must remain asthe sole religion in Papua New Guineato avoid more problems.
The pastor’s fraternal was responding to a motion inside parliament last week that invited public views on ther religions inthe country.
The pastoral fraternal wants a strong Christian faith in Papua New Guineaand no ther.
They arethe first to have responded tothe discussions in Parliament last week.
“We cannot be silent about this proposed mover bythe governmentobecausethere are ther religious groups inthe country already,” said Vice-Chairman, Pastor Newman Watapi.
The call to ban ther religions came fromthe Hela Governor, Anderson Aigiru.
Aigiru has received support for the idea as well as an equal amount of opposition from members ofthe public.
“We wantthe amendment to be changed from freedom of religion to freedom of Christian religion,” said Chairman, Reverend Siallis Pinari.
Church elders argue that inviting ther religions intothe country will cause severe problems inthe future.
The call for the amendment comes at a time when world issues such as war and terrorism, include certain religion.
