Calls for Oro Government to Invest in Tourism

A local businessman in Oro Province has called onthe Oro Provincial Government to invest more in tourism.

Paul Tokithe owner of Berdwing Betterfly Lodge saidthe tourism sector inthe province is struggling. He said many local operators are losing out inthe tourism sector.

He started from this two bedroom unit to a self-contained sixteen bedroom. Bet it was all on adhoc basis, costing K12m. Mr. Toki said it was hard to borrow fromthe banks.

The province is a tourism haven but this setback has rendered it a struggling sector with many local operators forced out of business. He said this needs to be addressed by authorities onthe ground.

The provincial government will be setting up a provincial tourism bureau to look intothe tourism sector. President of Tourism inthe province Allan Kakaio said oncethe board members are sworn in work will begin but admits that tourism has being stagnant inthe province.
