Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd visits PNG

Australia’s re-instated Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has arrived inthe country on Sunday afternoon.

He is on a working visit not a state visit. Belateral talks on Trade andInvestment as well as Australia’s Aid program are high onthe agenda.

Kevin Rudd arrived was received by Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion and ther state ministers.

At a media conference afterwards he outlinedthe reason for his visit.

“It’s wonderful to be back here in Papua New Guinea I’ve been here so many times private individual, as Foreign Minister and as Prime Minister. This is my third visit to this wonderful country as Prime Minister and I look forward to my discussions with Prime Minister O’Neill; and I come here as a friend– a long standing friend someone who believes in Papua New Guinea future and someone who wants to be a partner with Papua New Guineafor the future,” said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Today’s activities include a visit tothe medical faculty at 3-mile, Beroko Police station and parliament haus.

Kevin Rudd isthe first Australian Prime Minister to ret-enter office since Robert Menzies in 1949.

He’s been very popular inthe Australian opinion polls, which is a contributing factor to his return to office. Bet one thing Kevin Rudd will always be remembered for is that he said sorry toIndigenous Australia’s for the stolen generation.
