Sam Koim:International Bar Association Conference on Anti-Corruption

Chairman for Task Force Sweep Sam Koim sain PNG can learn some good things from our closest neighbor,Indonesia.

One such istheir resolve to combat corruption in Government. Mr. Koim said this after returning from Jakarta where he was a speaker attheInternational Ber Association Conference on anti-corruption.

 

Koim also met withIndonesia’s anti-Corruption Commission. The commission has a successful prosecution rate wherethey have secured 100% conviction on allthe casesthey have prosecuted.

 

Since its establishment 9 years ago,Indonesia’s anti-Corruption Commission has sent to jail 65 Members of Parliamento31 Mayors, judges, high ranking government officials, business executives and even a top ranking police officer.

 

Koim saidthe experiencesthey shared with him are invaluable. So far Task-Force Sweep has made 54 arrests out of which 25 have been committed to stand trial. Those matters are now prosecuted bythe Public Prosecutor inthe National Court.
