Tubusereia Village Cricket Revived

The Tubusereia village of Central Province has revived cricket which was in existence for over 16 years.

The cricket mad village is hoping to field a team in the ITI Port Moresby Cricket competition, after successfully completing the junior cricket tournament over the weekend.

 

A 20-minute drive from the Nation’s capital, and located along the Motuan coastline is Tubusereia village.

 

The community is known to actively participate in cricket since its inception 16 years ago when the first missionaries arrived in the Motuan villages.

 

Since then, the code was inactive up until recently, when the Junior cricket tournament eventuated over the weekend, and bringing to life, the Ikaiana Cricket ground.

 

The under U19s and U15s took to the bat in the grand finale showdown.

 

In the U15 division, Neganega Stars took on Dere Rocks in Yellow and white.

 

Dere Rocks won the toss and batted first, having Herea Kila scoring 27 runs off 15 balls, and set the target at 78 from the allocated overs.

 

In reply, Neganega Stars, with promising signs, took an early lead with 79 runs, scoring 7 for 80 runs of 8 overs from 15.

 

Stars Murray Andrew placed his team on top with 15 runs of 10 balls, while team mate Titus Tatoi created more misery with 14 runs of just 5 balls.

 

Dere on the other hand proved to be a very competitive side with bowler, Livingstone Sibona, picking up 5 wickets, and also having Joseph Samuel take out the man of the match award for taking 2 wickets for 5 runs.

 

However, Neganega proved to be a better side with a thumping 3 wickets win.

 

In the U19 division, Dere played Hisiubada Rebels in blue and white. The Rebels took the bat, smashing 8/113 runs from their allocated 20 overs.

 

Rebels’ Star batsman with unbeaten 34 runs of 19 balls posted a threat for Dereks.

In reply, Dere managed to collect 64 runs from 13.5 overs before running out of wickets.

 

Hisiubada Rebels walked out winners by 49 runs. From the tournament, the village is now ready to fielding a side in the next year’s ITI Port Moresby Cricket competition.
