One of the founding fathers of the Constitution and former Prime Minister has advised the Prime Minister and Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to put aside all politicking and let the course of justice take place.
New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan today told EM TV News that the current turmoil concerning Peter O’Neill’s warrant of arrest should have been avoided if the conventional bodies of the constitution were left to their work.
Sir Julius said whilst the courts and police carry out their work, the politicians, including Mr. O’Neill, continue to deliver services to the people.
Governor of New Ireland Province, Sir Julius Chan, was one of the founding fathers of the National Constitution and the second Prime Minister of the country.
Sir Julius is the first former Prime Minister and Governor to come out and speak on the issue.
EM TV News discussed with Sir Julius today on his thoughts about the saga and this is what he said.
Sir Julius said it is advisable that such a sensitive matter should be left to the law enforcers to deliberate on. The matter is now before the courts.
Last week, another attempt to stop the Prime Minister from being arrested failed – this time by the Acting Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki.
The Waigani District Court refused the Police Commissioner’s application to discontinue the warrant of arrest against the Prime Minister.
Simultaneously, the National Court, presided by Justice Ambeng Kandakasi, adjourned the matter filed by the Police Fraud Squad to Tuesday this week.
The matter was to stop Vaki from accessing the investigation files into the Paraka matter.
This was to give time to serve the court docuMen’s on the Police Commissioner and the State.
