New Erima Primary Receives New Bus

Another school in Moresby North East electorate was the proud recipient of a school bus.

New Erima Primary School, in National Capital District is the second school in the electorate to receive a school bus.

Students, teachers and parents gathered today to receive the gift from the office of the member, Labi Amaiu.

The absence of the local member who was away in Mt. Hagen today accompanying the Prime Minister did not dampen the spirits of the New Erima Primary School community.

More than two thousand elementary and primary students of New Erima gathered as early as eight this morning to welcome visitors, and receive their bus.

The 15-seater school bus is the second purchased under the district’s education component of the district service improvement program funds for Moresby North East.

All present today spoke highly of the initiative saying that this will address the many problems faced by teachers on a day to day basis.

Delivering an address on behalf of the member, his first secretary, Sam Philip, told those present that the Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee has aligned its priorities to that of the National Government.

Given the fact that the school has a total land boundary of ten point six hectares, the largest in NCD, the chairman of the school board, urged the NCD education division to build houses for teachers.

The school is more than two decades old, however, it is currently accommodating only six teachers.

Meanwhile, a new double classroom funded under the DISP was supposed to be opened today, however, due to incomplete work; its opening has been deferred.
