Kouza On Lae Petty Crime

Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza is resting her hopes in the Lae’s Biometric system as the answer to petty crimes in Lae city.

Miss Kouza’s response comes after a spike in pick pocketing and bag snatching by petty criminals over the past four weeks at Lae’s Eriku.

 

Petty crimes in Lae is stemming from the growing number of illegal settlement and large influx of people into the city.

 

Eriku is one of Lae’s busiest business centers. Over the last four weeks, it has been deemed unsafe.

 

Public concerns on their safety are mounting over the ever-present risk of being robbed by petty criminals.

 

The Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza, assured Lae public that, while the police struggle to contain these problems, she believes the introduction and the use of the biometric system will help address these problems.

 

Two weeks ago, a man was caught after he intended to snatch the wallet of a women. Members of the public beat him up and then slashed his arm with a bush knife.

 

Petty crimes have risen after the Menyamya Morobe Security Services withdrew their operations from the streets.

 

The police, meanwhile, are trying to fill in the void.

 

The head of the Lae police, Iven Lakatani says, there will be temporary police station established at the Eriku area, and police personal will be patrolling the streets.
