BSP RENOVATES SCHOOL ABLUTION BLOCK

Coronation Primary School in Port Moresby was temporarily closed in two instances this year for two weeks due to the health risks associated with the school’s aging and blocked toilets.

BSP under its Corporate Social responsibility selected the school to assist as part of its 2023 Community Project. Treasury Strategic Business Unit’s 2023 Community Project Coordinator Enoch Philip said assisting the school was a direct way of helping the community.

“Improvements included the replacement of 22 old toilet cisterns for both male and female students, including teachers. The entire pipe connection from the main point to the ablution block was also replaced, fixing the water pressure issue. We also replaced the rotten doors, pipes, broken tiles and constructed proper drainage for water.  Our staff volunteered during the weekends to give a fresh coat of paint on the entire ablution block, “Philip said.

The renovation work took only 10 days to complete.

Coronation Primary School Deputy Board Chairperson and Deputy Works Secretary Mr. Gibson Ali Holemba thanked BSP for its timely assistance on the school’s immediate need.

“Health risks from the toilet blockage was the school’s main concern since we have a very large school population from elementary prep to Grade 9.  Fixing the Toilet Blockage by BSP will go a long way in helping the school achieve its bigger goal to make sure the students can relieve themselves in a healthy environment while in school for studies,” Holemba added.

Coronation Primary School Headmistress Lavinia Kiniravu thanked BSP for assisting their school and keeping students in class for the remainder of the year.
