Over 10, 000 residents of Ragamuga settlement, just outside of Port Moresby, will now have a clean and safe water supply.
This follows a K320, 000 commitment from local MP Justin Tkatchenko to Eda Ranu to set up the water supply system.
Eda Ranu Chief Executive Officer, Henry Mokono, received the member’s funding for the project.
Ragamuga settlement, outside of Port Moresby, has been left without proper water supply for over 30 years.
Past MP’s had brought in water supplies that were not sustainable enough to cater to the entire population.
But now, Eda Ranu is coming to their aid after Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko and NCD Governor Powes Parkop pushed for a bigger and better water supply for the people.
Francisca Ninkama, a mother and resident at Ragamuga, said for years, the mothers had to walk from Ragamuga to 6 Mile to collect water for their families. She added that past MP’s had promised them safe water but had not delivered the service.
Francisca added that the people of Ragamuga are thankful for their MP and governor for finally hearing their cries, and initiating this project.
Moresby South MP, Justin Tkatchenko, called on the people of Ragamuga to work together in sustaining this important service. The MP said the people must take ownership of the project as it will benefit them, as well as the future generation.
Meanwhile, Eda Ranu CEO Henry Mokono said Eda Ranu will mobilize its’ resources, starting next week, and the project will swing into operation as soon as possible.
The people of Ragamuga had much to celebrate yesterday and are now looking towards having a safe and cleaner water supply.
