Duma In, With Official Announcements Pending

AMONGST new changes in holders of ministerial portfolios, is the appointment of previously decommissioned Petroleum and Energy Minister, and Parliament leader of the United Resources Party, William Duma.

He was sworn in as a government minister yesterday, by the Governor General at government house.

A minor reshuffle of government ministers will take place next week when Duma will take up the role of Transport Minister.

Current Transport Minister, Malakai Tabar, will be the new Minister for Higher Education; and Delilah Gore will replace Loujaya Kouza as the Minister for Community Development.

Prime Minister peter O&rsquO’Neill said Ms Kouza voluntarily stepped down as minister to take up the Chairmanship of the new Lae City Commission in the interim arrangement.

Prime Minister O&rsquO’Neill welcomed Mr Duma back to the cabinet and thanked him for his loyalty to the coalition government.

In the recent past, there has been considerable public discussion and unfounded predictions about the stability of government.

Recent political party defections, have been discounted by Registrar of the Political Parties and Candidates Commission, Dr. Alphonse Gelu.

The fact that parties have been advised that their members’ inclusions and exits, aren’t as easy as they thought, has been mentioned by several public commentators, as one reason for the shift in ministerial portfolios.
