National Disaster Centre Yet To Recieve K5 Million

The National Disaster Centre is yet to receive K5 million committed by Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill two weeks ago, to assist relief efforts in Gulf and Southern Highlands provinces.

This was confirmed by NDC Acting Executive Director, Martin Mose.

 

In an interview with EMTV, Mr. Mose also ensured that an additional three hundred thousand kina will be given to the Southern Highlands Disaster Centre this week, for relief efforts despite continuous bad weather.

 

The funds will be used for food, medicine and other essentials, specifically in Kagua Erave and Nipa Kutubu.

 

Meanwhile in Gulf, MV Kikori has delivered supplies worth 60 tons into Baimuru LLG over the weekend.

 

This comes off the back of 6 tons deposited last week into Wabo for surrounding impacted areas.

 

Mr. Mose explained that parts of East and West Kerema are also affected, but ground reports are yet to be attained to determine the gravity of the situation.

 

When asked about the significance of the urgent release of the K5 million, committed by Prime Minister O’Neill, Mr. Mose said it was pivotal in implementing their relief schedule to impacted areas and victims.

 

Additionally, more confirmed data need to be attained, in’Order to make an efficient impact in delivering relief supplies to both affected provinces.

 

Mr. Mose described data collection as a critical component in achieving its plans, and added that this falls under logistics. Logistics will be galvanized upon the receipt of the much needed K5 million.
