Code named “Marching with Modernization”, this policy will strengthen the police modernization program but with a bigger impact in a short time.

Projects will include the construction of 6000 new houses in all urban centers, purchase of 2000 vehicles, 12 helicopters and 2 Twin Otter planes among others.

Other major projects will be the rebuilding of the school of Excellence at Bomana, maintenance of existing houses and demolition of old houses, establishment of water police for coastal and river provinces, establish a 500 man rapid deployment unit at Goroka to protect resources, border patrol and to review the engagement of Australian Federal Police, while concentrating on sending police for training overseas.

This is part of a list of 39 activities to be undertaken under this program.

Mr Atiafa said this is not a final list of projects for the constabulary. He said NEC has agreed to accept any new innovative concepts that can improve the force.

He said the program covers all areas of the constabulary and is meant to improve their duties towards the public both rural and urban.

A committee has been approved to work on the projects by identifying key priority areas and called on all members of RPNGC, to embrace this program as the government is investing alot of resources into it.

He thanked the National Government for recognizing RPNGC and said an assistance of such magnitude is the first any government has done in the past.
