Community to take ownership on HIVAids

A forum discussing community engagement and ownership in the fight against HIV and Aids ended successfully on Thursday.

The Southern Regional Forum was hosted by the PNG Alliance for Civil Society’s Organizations – PACSO, at the Hideaway hotel in Port Moresby.

Coordinator Reverend Hasu Lokoloko said communities must take ownership of preventing the spread of HIV and Aids.

Meantime, Western Province Women’s Council President Daiu Gairi has called on the government and its partners to set up more HIV and Aids testing sites in rural areas, and more equipment’s are also needed.

She says most of the people live in the rural areas where we can’t easily tap into to do more awareness; and in this type of rural areas we only do awareness and no testing as it is quite difficult because we don’t have the right facilities.
