IT’S all a matter of maintaining balance where Ricky Ponting is concerned, according to opening batsman Ed Cowan.
And no, Cowan wasn’t talking about ongoing critical media coverage of the former Australia captain, who, at 37, seems to be battling to keep his Test career alive every time he goes out to bat.
Rather, Cowan was discussing Ponting’s actual batting and how he had seen enough while at the wicket with him yesterday during the second Test against the West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval to know he is playing well.
I think when we see Ponting’s trademark down-the-ground drives which we saw a few of today — a couple down the ground and one through mid-wicket — it means his balance is spot-on, Cowan said.
When he’s struggled over the last couple of years, that’s probably been the issue. So if he’s playing those shots it means he’s in good touch.
