Stroke victim Michael Lynagh enters crucial stage

MICHAEL Lynagh has suffered a serious stroke that was highly unusual for a person of his age, according to his Brisbane neurologist.

Dr Rob Henderson said the next 72 hours were vital to the former Wallaby’s captain’s chances of a full recovery.

The Wallabies legend, who played 72 times for Australia and 100 times for Queensland, remained in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit of Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The 48-year-old, who lives in London following his retirement from international rugby in 1995, has been visiting family and friends in Brisbane and collapsed at a dinner on Monday night after complaining of blurred vision and headaches.

Dr Henderson released a statement today confirming the popular Lynagh had suffered a stroke due to a blockage in the main artery of his neck.
