O’Neill retracts on elections

O’Neil said that the elections would be deferred by six months. He said that the parliament had been wrongly advised on the effects of section 105(1) © of the Constitution and the use of that section for the motion to defer the election by six months was wrong.

He said that the NEC remained with what the parliament had decided because the NEC observed that the electoral commission was not ready.

He said that it was ethically and morally right for the electoral commissioner to be honest and tell the people of PNG that the funds have been released to support the Electoral Commission

Djite’s 90th minute goal at Hindmarsh Stadium hoisted Adelaide to the top of its group, and the Reds now near certainties to advance to the next round of the lucrative Asian tournament.

Djite broke a scoring stalemate with an angled header from a speculative Cassio cross just three minutes from full-time.

Cassio launched a cross into the box and Djite’s header found the net via the woodwork to delight the parochial 7659-strong crowd.

Adelaide kept the Koreans scoreless thanks to a brilliant first half save by goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic.

Before the game the Reds captain told of his desire to make amends for a blunder two weeks ago which gifted Pohang its goal in a 1-0 win against Adelaide in South Korea. And just 11 minutes in, Galekovic did exactly that with a superb one-handed stop from a header by Steeler forward Byung Jun.
