Australia has moved to legislate for our Manus Province as the official processing centre for asylum seekers.
This gives Manus regional status under the migration.
Australia's Immigration Minister, Chris Bowen said Manus will be able to take on 600 asylum seekers, the first group within weeks. Some 30 men have already been sent to Nauru, the latest group to arrive.
Ground preparations on Manus are to be fast tracked as more Asylum Seekers reach Australia and conditions are already over crowded.
