Hacking The Earth’s System With Treepods

by Juanita Nonwo – EM TV Online

Science has found a way to contain the huge amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the earth’s atmosphere. In a concept described as ‘hacking the earth’s system’, a technology has been invented to suck out the bad gas from the air.

In a joint invention between Aetrangere and SHIFTBoston, the two are working together to create Treepods, which uses a technology developed by Dr Klaus Lackner, the director of the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy at Columbia University, that will filter the air and trap CO2.

The treepod, which is generally shaped to resemble a tree will be powered by solar and kinetic energy, and made out of recycled plastics (polyethylene terephthalate or PET) – the type that is used for making water bottles.

It will be fitted with an eco-friendly resin that will suck in and trap the carbon dioxide and release the filtered clean air back out.

The resins when in contact with water, reacts and releases the carbon which can then be stored for later use. Some scientists have already come up with a way to use this stored carbon to create other materials.

Although there are some sceptics that debate this newly introduced concept, the inventors have headed in full swing with the aim of creating a technology that will enhance the abilities of trees and plants to absorb CO2 that would possibly lead to a cleaner and carbon-free atmosphere with the hope of reversing global warming.
