Call for More inclusion of people with Disability in the Pacific

By Samantha Semoso – EMTV Online

Setareki Macanawai, Chief Executive of the Pacific Disability Forum, an organisation representing people living with disabilities in the Pacific, says, “One in five people estimated to be living with some form of disability in the Pacific face many entrenched cultural and physical barriers to full participation, and a lot still needs to be done.”

More inclusive societies need to be created in the region for people living with disabilities.

At least 16 countries in the region have signed or ratified the UN convention on the rights of persons with disabilities but there is still lack of action on the ground.

The inclusion of people with disabilities really, really needs to be addressed for them to fully participate in society be it social or political.
