by Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

33 year old Tua Yangut has been released from prison after spending six years in prison for refusing to pay a police office’s bribe.

Tua, from Erap Village in Morobe Province, was falsely accused of kidnaping a woman in 2009, but was cleared by the victim after a negative ID at Boroko Police Station.

Upon being released, he was approached by a police officer at the station and asked for a K1,000 bribe as bail.

Upon refusing to pay, Tua was detained and taken to Bomana Prison where he was imprisoned for the kidnapping until his release last Thursday.

He was released by the courts who found him not guilty and is now seeking legal advice for potential compensation.
