Fiji-Japan Bilateral Relationship Fruitful


Fiji and Japan’s bilateral relations has strengthened with Japan pledging near 900 million Japanese Yen (US$7.4 million). This is to aid Fiji to improve its response to natural disasters.

Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, spoke at a joint news conference on Tuesday saying that the leaders have agreed to uphold bilateral trade and investment and support continuing reform at the United Nation Security Council.

Fiji’s Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, expressed his gratitude towards Japan for granting his request during their bilateral meeting yesterday, stating that:

“Our meeting today was very fruitful and covered many important issues that will strengthen our bilateral relations. We are supportive of Japan’s contribution to peace globally. We can look forward to advancing the relationship between Fiji and Japan and now and into the future. I’m confident that as a result of today’s’ meeting the Fiji-Japan bilateral relations will now be conducted in a much high level,” the Fijian PM said.

The two countries agreed to cooperate in international forums and also to ensure success of the two-day PALM summit which will be held sometime later this week.

The meeting ended with the two ministers exchanging rugby jerseys.
