Papua New Guinea is following the global trend where education is compulsory and given top priority by the National Government.
With the Country’s first ever free education policy; there has been an increase in student population.
There are now over 50 students to a teacher is some schools in the country.
In Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik Province, the increased number of students is having a huge impact on the district’s two high schools, Kubalia and Yangoru Secondary School. This has also affected the schools’ performance.
However, the district will have a new high school built in the next two years. The West Yangoru High School will be built to address the increasing number of children (students) in the district.
A ground breaking ceremony was done last week by local MP, Richard Maru, and the school will be built at a cost of K10million.
