For teachers and public servants in Kiunga, and other parts of Western Province, accessing financial services has been a burden, especially during the Christmas period.
However, that burden will be lifted with the Teachers Savings and Loans Society (TISA) opening its 16th branch in Kiunga, last Saturday.
North Fly District Education Superintendent, Charles Buia, said accessing financial services has left most of the teachers in Western vulnerable as it affects their performances in the classroom as well.
“When my teachers are heavily taxed to repay loans, they do not perform well in class, however the opening of the TISA Kiunga branch marks the start of something new for Western Province,” Buia said.
TISA CEO, Michael Koisen, said the financial sector is not reaching all Papua New Guineans, and TISA has plans to close that gap in competing with other financial institutions in the country.
“TISA will continue to develop the financial sector of PNG, because we are not for profit making, we are for the people,” Koisen said.
