Iarowari Sports Facility Development

by Godwin Eki – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The Iarowari Sports Facility has seen a redevelopment take place, all thanks to a huge fundraising effort.

The aim of the fundraiser was to raise money to build two new basketball, volleyball courts, and one netball court for the students. The target amount for the new sports facility was K300,000, but last night’s dinner made over a K100,000.

Mindu Karu, School in-service Coordinator and Head of Social Science, said although the target amount hasn’t been reached as yet, the school will continue to carry out more fundraisers until the target amount of K300,000 has been reached.

Two main sponsors for the event were the National Parliament Clerk, who contributed K13,000 and PNG Sports Foundation with K10,000. An additional K6,000 each from other schools and organisations in Port Moresby were made, with all proceeds going towards the development of sports in the school.

The school will continue to host other events to reach the budget of K300,000 so the construction at the school can be completed.
