Opposition Calls For Investigations Into Government Contracts

by Stanley Ove Jr – EMTV Port Moresby

The Opposition has called for investigations into Government Contracts given to overseas companies.

Opposition Leader, Don Polye, said the amount of money paid to infrastructure developers and legal contactors is unjustified claiming that they are linked to money laundering.

“The large amount of public funds being awarded to foreign companies for development purposes is unjustified,” said Polye.

Polye said what was revealed by the Australian television program, SBS Dateline, is evidence to the people of Papua New Guinea that contracts awarded to some overseas companies can be a form of money laundering.

Polye questioned the O’Neill-Dion Government on various issues relating to claims of corruption in the Government.

He linked the missing K50million TFF funds and the claimed misappropriated K50million in the Agriculture Developments in East Sepik Province.

“The Government is not losing these monies accidently, they are doing it deliberately,” Polye said.

The opposition is calling for an independent investigation into current Government contracts and future Government contracts in the country.
