POM Canoe Club Receives Sponsorship from InterOil and Total E&P

InterOil and Total EP PNG Limited came on board with a sponsorship today totalling K70,000 to support the Port Moresby Canoe Club.

The Port Moresby Canoe club has 12 paddlers in the PNG Va’a team for the Pacific Games, an equal number of six men and six women were present today at the Lanchron Naval Base.

InterOil Executive Vice President, Isikeli Taureka, said the support will contribute to the development of the sports and the athletes.

This is the first sponsorship for the club. The new canoes, paddles and trailers made available, will provide youths in the city with the opportunity to enjoy sport through getting involved in outrigger canoeing.

One of the paddlers, Nellie Tetaga said, “We’re really happy that Total and InterOil have come on board to support us. We’ve got a lot of paddlers that are interested in paddling, and by them supporting us especially the young kids, it’s really good…” 

They will be testing the out the new canoes tomorrow at 7a.m at the Lanchron Naval Base.
