The two youngest members of PNG’s triathlon team are setting the benchmark for their teammates ahead of the upcoming Pacific Games.
Tony Kua and Casmer Kamangip have recently been selected as members of the Oceania Triathlon Union, ensuring they’ll compete against the best in the world. But for now, their focus is centred around success at the Pacific Games.
18 year-old Kua and 20-year-old Kamangip, both from East Sepik, expect the Pacific Games to set a benchamark of what competition will be like on the world stage.
They have been named alongside Rachael James, Rosemary Ralfe and Mairi Feegar in PNG’s triathlon team for the games.
The boys sharpened up at a recent meet in Fiji.
Kua finished 17th with a time of 1:13:27, 9 seconds behind fellow OUT competitor Borris Teddy from Solomon Islands. With Kamangip a further 3-minutes away, clocking in at 1:16:29. t
This will also be a first for Sepik ironman officials, Lynette Sarry, Morah Sandu, Joey Ikau and Stephen Damien, who will be officiating during the triathlon event at the games.
