Work on Lae Nadzab Highway Continues at Slow Pace

by Bethanie Harriman – EM TV, Lae

The construction of the five hundred million kina Lae-Nadzab four-lane highway continues at a slow pace due to continuous rains.

China Railway International (CRI), the construction company building the road, is grading the bad sections from One Mile to Six Mile area to give some comfort to motorists.

In Six Mile, traffic has been directed to one side of the Highway to allow the surface to be graded and prepared for sealing.

Those who sit at the market everyday along the highway have become witnesses of the project and have their own opinions on the construction of the road.

“It’s taking two to three years to construct the Highway,” says Nelson Peke.

The highway was the aspiration of the National Government and it was going to be funded by a Chinese Exim Bank loan.

Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, has highlighted some changes that need to be made, that include a contract that needs to be given to CRI to carry out grading work from One Mile to Five Mile.

Naru also says the Works department has not properly updated the Morobe Provincial Government.

While the construction is ongoing, Governor Naru has called on motorists to take care when driving through crime hot spots along the miles area.
