Security Training Vital

By Quinton Alomp – EM TV, Port Moresby

Three well-established and licensed security firms have been given approval by the Security Industries Council to run training for all other registered security firms.

The three firms are Guard Dog Security Services, G4S Secure Solutions (PNG) and Port Moresby-based Black Swan International.

The three firms will train guards from all other registered firms.

Of the three, Guard Dog, currently based in Lae, will train guards from security companies operating in Highlands, Momase and the New Guinea Islands regions.

G4S and Black Swan International will train guards in NCD and the Southern Region.

Training duration, fees and schedule will depend on each training firm.

Security Industries Council Chairman, Gari Baki, said all security guards must be trained before being issued a permit by the Security Industries Authority to work as a guard.

Failure to comply will result in a K1000 fine.

A memorandum of understanding was signed today between the three companies and SIC, allowing over 30,000 semi trained and untrained security guards employed in 462 licensed security companies to undergo proper training.
