by Vasinatta Yama – EM TV, Port Moresby

New evidence in the Hanuabada shooting was handed over by the villagers to the Forensic team this afternoon.

The new evidence includes a bullet retrieved from a surviving victim, and empty shell casings from the January shootout at Hanuabada.

It took over three months to get the villagers to hand over this remaining evidence to police.

Assistant Crimes Commissioner, Donald Yamasombi, clarified to the media and the HB villagers that the investigation into the shooting has not ended yet.

He explained that a coronial file has a closing date of 12 months.

In between, it can accommodate for more evidence.

Mr Yamasombi also slammed the Hanubada reports released by NCD and Central Acting Divisional Commander, Jerry Frank, as premature, as the findings are still inconclusive and should not made known to the public.

The last evidence handed over is a 5.56mm bullet that was retrieved from the body of Nou Karoho, who survived a gunshot wound to his back during the time of the shooting.

Some shell casings were also presented to the forensic team.

The compiled report that was presented by Commander, Jerry Frank, on Tuesday to ACP Crimes, Donald Yamasombi, and is held at the Police Headquarters for examination.

Once a second coronial inquest is set, the investigators and forensic team will assist the Coroner, on the facts involved in the Hanuabada shooting.

With the new evidence presented, investigators will go down to the village to investigate where those evidence were collected.
