ABG General Elections: Eligible Voters Increase

by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Buka

The number of eligible voters casting their votes in this year’s third Autonomous Bougainville Government General Election, has increased.

Bougainville’s Acting Electoral Commissioner, George Manu, told EM TV News in Buka that the electoral roll has been finalised.

Mr Manu said that from the 2010 electoral update, an additional of 20,000 voters were recorded when the electoral roll was updated. Total number of voters now stands at 173, 000.

He said that the increased number of eligible voters shows that great work is done by responsible authorities in making sure that the roll is updated.

On gender ratio, Mr Manu said that the updated electoral roll is well balanced, with an improvement in data. This shows men and women will equally vote in this year’s election, which is important to Bougainville’s future political status.

Mr Manu said that the election is on track and candidates have a week left to campaign, before polling begins on the 11 May, 2015.
