The long walk to raise funds for Utu Secondary in the New Ireland Province has come to an end.
The walk began in the Namatanai district all the way to Kavieng town.
The walk was to raise funds to help build new learning facilities for the school.
The marathon was launched last week and continued with students, staff, board members, local MP’s, ex-students and stakeholders who all walked for a good course.
Along the 263 kilometre stretch of road, villages also showed their support by giving money, food and providing accommodation for all who took part.
The 5 day marathon is a first of its kind as students and stakeholders showed their eagerness to improve and embrace education in the province.
Kavieng MP, Ben Micah, who was part of the participants said the school had been neglected for too long and the move for the marathon is timely.
Business houses, private firms and political leaders were also part of the marathon and pledged their support to reach the target of raising K2 million.
