Watt Kiddie, a private accountant and the founder of Kiddie and Associates CPA Public Accounting firm, says corruption remains one of the biggest challenges faced by the practice.
He has called for standards to be set by Papua New Guineans in the accounting practice.
Mr Kiddie made these remarks recently when reflecting on his achievements and challenges faced by the Accounting practice.
Watt Kiddie has been a practicing accountant for over 28 years and founded Kiddie and associates, Certified Practicing Accountants. His efforts were recently recognised by the government when he received the Logohu Award for his services to the Accounting Practice.
Currently, there are about 100 Papua New Guinean Accounting firms. Watt Kiddie has called for standards to be set in the practice.
Labeling his accounting firm as a “home grown international firm”, Watt Kiddie suggested for other accounting firms to be localised so that local professional accountants can be given the opportunity to expand their practice.
In all his accounting career, he says corruption has been and is still one of the biggest challenges faced by the practice. Some of his firm’s highlights include the audit and clean-up of NCD Commission accounts which he described as “one of the most corrupt organisation”.
Moving forward, he says, from the legacy of McNeill Young and Kiddie, the accounting firm will now operate as Hanrick Curran & Kiddie, starting this month.
