With sporting competition from around the region, come July at the Pacific Games, PNG’s shooters will bring their best to the shooting range.
The PNG Pistol and Shotgun team will be competing for seven medals.
Among the 10-member Shotgun team that is training, a final six will be selected for the games.
Hvae gone through the two-day coaching clinic with Australian Olympic and World Shooting Champions Russel and Lauryn Mark over the weekend in Port Moresby, the national shooting team are in, intensive preparations, for the games.
Among eight countries that will be participating in competitive shooting, Fiji and New Caledonia are PNG’s biggest threats.
Junior Shooting Champion at the Arafura Games in 2001 and 2005, Angus Donald is among 10 competitive shooters showing great contention for the final selection for PNG’s Shooting team in the Pacific Games.
Joining him is our strongest contender for a medal in the shotgun category, Peter Leahy and relatively new shotgun shooter, Nick Constantinou.
With the team to be selected next month, PNG’s shotgun team will be competing in tournaments in Brisbane in March and May.
There will be one more coaching clinic in April, before the final six shooters are selected to carry PNG to the Pacific Games range.
