Kavieng Opens Public Amenities

After years without proper public amenities, Kavieng Town in New Ireland Province has been provided with modern toilet facilities.

The unique and modern public toilet facilities were opened by Women’s Representative Philomena Jonah, and witnessed by Governor Sir Julius Chan, the provincial administration and the public.

The toilets are located at the Kavieng market and the Sports Oval at the cost of three hundred fifty thousand.

The Public toilets provide modern and unique facilities. The building materials are strong with low maintenance, the sanitary equipment’s are stainless and rustproof and they use less water per flush. The septic system is environmentally friendly using the evaporative septic system and therefore does not soak into the soil to pollute the soil and drinking water supply. The toilets will have full time janitors taking care of the facilities to keep the facilities clean and hygienic at all times.

Governor Sir Julius Chan said he was happy that this service is finally available for the general public to use unlike in the past where people use bushes or the sea to relieve themselves.

Similar facilities are also built in Namatanai town and plans are underway for rest areas along the Buluminski Highway.
