U20 Women’s Teams arrived from New Zealand today after the World Cup Qualifiers.
PNG was ranked 2nd in the U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The PNG U20 Women’s Team arrived from New Zealand after a long flight early this morning.
Accompanied by Coach Rachael, the girls walked out of the international arrivals area where they were greeted by friends and family.
With a bit of support and camaraderie from each other, they looked confident, but shy.
The team played well in the first matches against Tonga and Vanuatu.
PNG won the two matches, but lost the last match against hosts New Zealand, 3 points to nil.
The coach said based on their performance, she will work extra hard with her team in preparation for future competitions.
Over all, being the first time for the girls to compete overseas, she was happy with the performance and effort they put in.
Some of the players have been selected from outside centers to participate in the U20 women’s world cup qualifiers.
These players came from as far as Lae, Madang and from the Nation’s Capital, Port Moresby.
They will now go back to their respective home provinces to see their families, and most importantly, get back to training in preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games.
