A committee has been formed to put forward the Arawa Health Centre’s plans to become Bougainville’s referral base hospital.
Resident doctor, Joe Vilosi says the committee’s formation is vital, to ensuring this.
Arawa General Hospital was one of Papua New Guinea’s well-established health institutions with a nursing school that was burnt down during the Bougainville Crisis.
Dr. Vilosi has been to Arawa last year, to speed up the transitional processes.
He also performed the first surgical procedures, saving mothers with complicated pregnancies.
With plans now in place to improve services, the need to establish a committee was established, to oversee operations.
He also pointed out that the abuse of powers by some authorities has resulted in poor management.
Meanwhile Dr. Vilosi says Arawa Health Centre is still operating on the Bougainville Administration’s budget.
During this transitional period, he said monies must be managed locally for services to flow.
The Arawa Nursing Training College is part of the plan that will boost manpower for effective service delivery.
