The body of a man was found this morning in the Laloki River.
Villages alleged that the deceased may have been tried to smuggle betelnut across the river when he met his fate.
This picture shows the deceased body, after villagers brought it, and placed it on the river bank.
The corpse was floating in the river, when this young man, Kone Maino sighted it while fishing.
Villagers are assuming the fatality is a result of the buai smuggling, which occurs along the river.
Since the ban was imposed, buai smugglers have used the river to bring their buai bags across.
The river is the livelihood of the villagers, who use it to fish, do laundry, and most of all, their drinking source, during dry sessions.
But one villager, Nellie Gardi, says: “and now with the corpse, it has posed great health risk.”
Police and the ambulance arrived; after we have left the scene to repatriate the body.
A post mortem and investigation will proceed.
