For the first time, two senior police officers will be attending a one month law and order seminar in Japan. This morning the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a pre-departure orientation.
The officers are Provincial Police Commanders of Enga and Manus respectively, Philip Welia and Alex N’drasel.
Chief Inspector, Philip Welia, and Alex N’drasel were selected by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to attend the one month Criminal Justice seminar in Japan.
This seminar is held by United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the prevention of crime and the treatment of offenders.
The seminar will give the Police Commanders an opportunity to share experiences, learn and study methods for restorative justice
The course is crucial, it comes after Police Commissioner, Tom Kulunga, launched the Modernisation Program.
The police commanders are looking forward to acquiring new skills from the seminar, and they have appealed to JICA and RPNGC to have more of such programs.
The programs offered are relevant for senior criminal justice officials such as investigators, public prosecutors, correctional officers or probation officers who deal with criminal cases.
