Obura Yalia 5 Year Plan

Yalia LLG in the Obura–Wonenara District of Eastern Highlands Province has launched its five year development plan.

This is the first time for the District to have such a plan, and the top priority is constructing roads into this remote isolated community.

It’s about 35 minutes flight out of Goroka town by an MAF plane, which is one of the church–run third airline companies, providing much needed services in this remote part of Eastern Highlands Province.

Road links are yet to be constructed, and existing ones are yet to be completed as the difficult geographical terrain has always been a challenge for successive governments.

Eastern Highlands Governor, Julie Soso, travelled to Simbari in Yalia LLG to launch the Yalia LLG Five Year Development Plan.

The people told the Governor about the problems they face every day.  Community Spokesman, Ekim Ulako, said they have no roads and the only means is by air, and it is every expensive.

Governor Soso in response announced major developments in the area that were captured in the Yalia LLG Five Year Development Plan. The Governor has allocated K1 million each for EBC Kasam Health Centre to upgrade its status to District hospital, improved communication with construction of a Digicel Tower, and half a million kina to purchase equipment  and other machines to construct a road into Simbari.

It is anticipated the District and Provincial Governments will continue the road project from Nombia village to Baira to connect the Yalia LLG.

It was only three kilometres left to construct however, the project, initiated by former MP John Boito, was allegedly abandoned by the current Member, Mire Mine Kipefa.
