Kramer Petitions Duban

A day after Mr Duban’s swearing in, runner-up in the 2013 by-election Bryan Kramer has again filed an election petition disputing the return of Mr Duban as the Member for Madang.

Kramer is disputing the legitimacy of Duban’s election on grounds of illegal practices of bribery, undue influence by agents of Duban and omissions and errors on the part of the Electoral Commission in conducting the by-election.

This is Mr Kramer’s second petition against Mr Duban.

Both Kramer and Duban and 16 other candidates contested the by-election in September last year with Duban declared on 19th December 2013 polling 18,226 votes. Kramer was the runner-up with 7,805 votes, a difference of 10,421.

The bribery allegation relates to the visit by two senior Peoples National Congress Party Parliamentary Members and cabinet Ministers on the eve of the by-election, presenting district cheques to the value of K110, 000 to the community church groups, and handed out banana boats to fishing groups.
