India wants to give more substance to its bilateral relationship with Papua New Guinea.
The new Indian High Commissioner to PNG, Nagendra Kumar Saxena, said this during a recent media conference in Port Moresby.
Saxen said the government of India has already approved a line of credit of 100 million US Dollars; of which 30 million is for the National Court in Mt Hagen and 70 million for the Madang-Baiyer Highway.
The new High Commissioner of India to PNG has been in office for just four months.
In this time he has seen that while India has a diplomatic mission in PNG and PNG has one in New Delhi, there has not been a real harmonious development of bilateral relations.
India has plans to gifting an ICT lab to the University of PNG and establishing an Institute of Sustainable Maritime and Coastal Research, among many other projects.
Saxena also announced that the President of India would be visiting PNG this year, where a number of MOUs are expected to be signed.
He said the government of India has also provided a significant sum of money for pharmaceutical prescription for HIV patients in PNG including the equipment used to test and monitor HIV for one year.
In the meantime, Janet Sape, Director of PNG Women in Business is a participant of the Distinguished Visitors Program for a 10-day visit to India.
