More Papua New Guinean’s are seeking specialist healthcare services overseas.
Andrew Bokame, a recent heart surgery patient said that lifesaving surgeries remain expensive in the country.
He said the arrangement between Paradise Private Hospital and India’s Fortis Healthcare has given him another chance to live a normal life.
“I can feel change in my body after going through the operation in India,” said Bokame.
He told EMTV news that such operations are still expensive in Papua New Guinea, and the cost has disadvantaged many ordinary citizens who struggle to pay hospital fees.
“These specialist services are very costly in the country (PNG),” Bokame said.
Bokame is the first patient under the new agreement and understanding between Paradise Private Hospital and India’s Fortis Healthcare. He will be returning to India after six months for a diabetic test.
Paradise Private Hospital will now monitor Bokame through his recovery. Hospital Director, Janet Sios, said the hospital is looking at options to help ordinary Papua New Guinean’s access such healthcare services.
Fortis Healthcare is a renowned leading healthcare facility in the Pan Asia Pacific region. 20 other patients are under screening for admission to Fortis Healthcare for life saving surgery operations.
