Chief Superintendent Mark Kanawi of the Royal PNG Constabulary (RPNGC) is now recovering from heart surgery; an operation performed thanks to donations from the Chinese-PNG Friendship Association.

As a token of their heartfelt appreciation, the Kanawi family hosted a traditional customary ceremony to express their thanks.

The traditional Manus tok tenkyu ceremony began with the popular Manus dance followed by the presentation of two live pigs to the PNG-Chinese Friendship Association (PNGCFA).

His daughter, Peta, spoke for the family in expressing her heartfelt appreciation for contributing to saving her father’s life.

Kanawi, who is now happily recovering was diagnosed with heart disease by doctors at the Port Moresby General Hospital and referred for further medical treatment in Singapore.

The medical equipment needed for a more specific diagnosis and operation was not available in PNG at the time.

He was found to have suffered 10 blockages in his heart.

With the help of the Police Departments Media Unit, who publicised his appeal, they’d received assistance from the PNGCFA who donated a generous K100,000.

President of PNGCFA, Michael Lin, said the society were not just here for business but to lend a helping hand.

”The Chinese community is similar to PNG, we believe love creates miracles, love saves lives,” he said.

The Pmedia unit was grateful, and according to Inspector David Terry, they hoped to continue its relationship with the society.
