All-Female Crew Make World History Crossing the Pacific Ocean Alone

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

A total of six British women called the ‘Coxless Crew’ have made history by crossing the Pacific Ocean, unassisted by any company.

The nine-month journey began in San Francisco last year and has taken 257 days before the arrival of the crew in Cairns on Monday.

During the journey across the Pacific, the female crew stopped at Hawaii and Samoa each for a week before they continued their journey.

The journey was aimed at raising funds to provide to two charities ‘Walking with the Wounded’ and ‘‘Breast Cancer Care’.

During the journey, the all-female crew managed to raise a total of $30,000 British Pounds.

The journey has been put together as a documentary titled ‘Losing Sight of Shore’ by Filmmaker Sarah Moshman, and will be released for viewing later this year.

Moshman described the journey taken by this all-female crew as an incredible story of courage, perseverance and friendship.

The brave journey by these women makes this the first all-female rowing crew to cross the Pacific, and the first to row four at a time.
