POM Suburban Rugby League Kicks Off

By Dinnierose Raiko – EMTV Sport, Port Moresby

Port Moresby Suburban Rugby League has gone into its third round of competition, with only the A grade component of the competition taking to the field thus far.

With 17 more rounds go, other divisions are yet to take part due to the non-payment of registration fees.

Recognising that the level of competition is lower, the organising committee are making exceptions for late registration, which will give a chance for all clubs interested to take part.

The U20 Women’s games will start next week once they pay their registration fees.

Port Moresby Suburban Rugby League Chairman, Peter Wai, said suburban rugby league is aimed at creating a pathway for players to grow and excel in the sport.

He added that as the competition continues a team will be selected to play in the Corporate Nines competition for PNG Games NCDC Team selection.

The top four teams from the competition will also undergo selections for the Northern Zone Cup, which will be held in Northern province this August.

The competition’s grand finale is scheduled to be in September.
