Milford Haven Road is one of the busiest roads, not only in Lae, but in the whole of Papua New Guinea.
But, it is one road that has missed out when the other road sections were upgraded.
Lae Chamber of Commerce President, Allan McLay, said the road was in the program to be redone in 2015, and then again this year.
But due to the financial situation the country is facing, money has not been allocated to upgrading Milford Haven Road.
McLay said the road was used as a bypass during the previous road construction and has been left forgotten.
He said another section of the road from the main port to the Mobil service station is part of the Highlands Highway, and has to be built to a different standard.
For now, companies adjacent to the road are putting in funds to upgrade it, with the Lae Chamber of Commerce assisting those companies by paying for fuel.
It’s a temporary operation, but it’s costing businesses.
McLay is urging the government to get the road fixed as soon as possible for the proper operation of those businesses to occur.
